What is an NDIS provider?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding to eligible people with disability to gain more time with family and friends, greater independence, access to new skills, jobs, or volunteering in their community, and an improved quality of life.

The NDIS also connects anyone with disability to services in their community. This includes connections to doctors, community groups, sporting clubs, support groups, libraries and schools, as well as providing information about what support is provided by each state and territory government.

The NDIS now supports over 500,000 Australians with disability to access the services and support they need. This includes supporting approximately 80,000 children with developmental delay, ensuring they receive support early so that they achieve the best outcomes throughout their lives.

In simple terms, the NDIS is Australia’s first national Scheme to support people with disability. It provides funding directly to individuals.

How To – What is the NDIS?

NDIS aims to offer personalised assistance and services to enhance the quality of life and increase the independence and social participation of individuals with disabilities. Key aspects of the NDIS include:

  1. Individualised Plans:
Each participant has a tailored plan that outlines their goals, needs, and the supports required to achieve them.
  2. Funding:
Participants receive funding to purchase the supports and services they need. This funding is flexible and can be used for a variety of supports such as therapy, equipment and personal care.
  3. Choice and Control:
Participants have control over how their NDIS funds are spent, allowing them to choose the providers and services that best meet their needs.
  4. Eligibility:
The scheme is available to Australian citizens or permanent residents under the age of 65 who have a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to take part in everyday activities.
  5. Support Categories:
The NDIS covers a range of support categories, including daily personal activities, transport, workplace help, therapeutic supports, and home modifications.

The NDIS aims to provide long-term, high-quality support and is designed to promote social and economic participation, ensuring that people with disabilities have the opportunity to live as independently as possible.
